Pasco School District crafty girls

Pasco School District Crafty Girls

The first Pasco School District Scrapbook Club started in September, 2010 and it became more than just a way to involve students after school! It became a great opportunity for parents to get involved and help students succeed in school. Initially, fifteen girls and two parents were part of the club and our meetings on Wednesdays were a lot of fun! Members kept their grades up (only A`s and B`s) meeting the club`s requirement. Today our numbers vary weekly depending on the students` grades and we have about four parents that show up according to their availability.

During our second year, members decided to select a president and a vice-president to run our club! Seventh graders Jazmin Valdez and Deisy Cardoso have been doing a great job by organizing and planning our activities weekly. The minimum requirement switched to 3.2 GPA, making sure that students do their late work or homework first and see the club as a privilege and as an incentive to keep being a responsible learner.
All our materials are either donated or fundraised by the club and members have been good about running the club. Donations are always very welcome, especially in the spring when everybody decides to clean their closets and craft rooms. Mrs. Potter (our Bus Department Supervisor), Whittier Librarian Corinne Butcher, Emerson Para Educator Cecilia Miranda (in 2010-2011), Dr. Johnson (Professor at WSU Tri cities and my husband), Mrs. Williams (Ochoa) and Mrs. Butcher (Whittier Elementary librarian) have been supporting our club by participating and contributing with ideas, donations and most important: their time! Four different parents have been involved with our club this year so far and one of our next directed activities on literacy will be journaling on their album pages, just like Writers` workshop! That way, arts and language arts are connected, giving members the opportunity to master their writing skills, as well as developing thinking and creative skills.

New members and volunteers are welcome! Please feel free to e-mail me with scrapbook ideas or suggestions! (anjohnson@psd1.org). Come check it out and be part of our club!!

I need to include a special thanks to Pam Potter who goes out of her way to run and support the club! She is absolutely amazing and one of  the most committed individual I`ve ever met! We appreciate what you do!

Finally, that’s my webpage! Please check it out! We  have all sorts of pictures and a little bit about our club!
